Cllr Janet Weston

Janet was born in Savernake, Wiltshire, and moved to Gloucester at the age of two. Since then, Gloucester has always been her hometown. She grew up in the city and attended St Paul’s Infant and Junior School, before moving on to Hatherley Girls’ School and later Linden Secondary School.

At the age of 16, Janet began full-time employment at J Sainsbury’s on Northgate Street. During her 19 years with the company, she worked her way up from the shop floor to become a Food Safety Trainer, providing basic food safety training to colleagues, before later becoming Section Manager for Fresh Foods. In 1994, following a change in management structure, Janet was sadly made redundant and left Sainsbury’s after nearly two decades of service.

After spending eight months out of work, Janet decided to retrain as a Nursery Nurse Assistant. She joined Twin Gable Day Nursery, where she studied for her NVQ in Childcare and Education, successfully completing the course after a year and a half.

In 1979, Janet became a born-again Christian. Her faith and love for Jesus Christ remain central to her life, and she believes that without Him, life would be without meaning.

In 1987, Janet, along with her parents and sister, moved from the city to Quedgeley, Gloucester. Sadly, she later lost both of her parents — her father in 2012 after suffering from Parkinson’s disease, and her mother in 2014 from acute myeloid leukaemia.

Two years later, Janet moved to Barrow Close, where she is very happy and grateful for the support of her wonderful family and friends.

In 2017, Janet retired from her role at Asda due to ill health, a decision she found extremely difficult. However, joining Quedgeley Town Council gave her a renewed sense of purpose. She is passionate about giving back to the community she lives in and hopes that she is making a positive difference.

Janet is also the proud owner of an Imperial Shih Tzu named Dixie May. In her spare time, she enjoys sewing, card crafting, beauty and nature, dining out, and spending time with friends. She is also a keen fan of science fiction and fantasy programmes and films.
